Palma Ceia UMC — Other Ministry Opportunites

Music

Music is an important part of Palma Ceia's worship and fellowship. We believe music plays a vital role in our worship and our lives. You will enjoy the sounds of our beautiful organ.

Our choir director reminds us that there is a place in our choirs for the person who has no training in voice and who may not even read music. Most of us have more musical capabilities than we know. Interest is the guideline to participating in our choirs; come join us and we will learn together.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is open to interested adults and older young people, and rehearses each Wednesday at 7:30 in the Choir Room (located in the West Wing) following Wonderful Wednesdays dinner and bible study,

Throughout the year the choir has its own special meetings, and from time to time works with other choirs in combined performances.

No experience is required.  Music is rehearsed at least 2 months before it is performed, so non-music readers are comfortable performing our anthem and cantatas.

Children’s Choirs

Palma Ceia offers two choirs for children — Pre-school through Grade 2 and Grades 3-5 —
both of which come together for music and fun on Wednesday evenings following
Wonderful Wednesdays Supper.

Our Children's Choirs sing in the 10:30 service on a regular basis.

Handbell Choir

We have an adult choir and a youth choir for middle and high school ringers. No experience required to join either Bell Choir.

Music Scholarships

A scholarship fund is set up to help students who study music on the college level. Ask our Director of Music for information.

Church Library

Palma Ceia is a church of readers of all ages. Our library of books and videos with religious foci is arranged for browsing. Just look below the subject categories above each library section to find helpful and enjoyable books and films.

You'll also find a changing selection of new or seasonal books featured on the library table. The library is open whenever the church buildings are.

Virtual Bookstore

In cooperation with Cokesbury, Palma Ceia has established a Virtual Bookstore with Cokesbury.com.  The church will receive a share of the proceeds from your purchase, and you will receive the same great prices as you always do with Cokesbury.

You'll also find an ever changing list of recommended reading by our pastors.

Book Club

The PCUMC Book Club meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month.  Contact the church office for details.

Art Group

If you are interested in learning to paint in watercolors, join our group every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. (except 3rd Tuesdays due to Circle meeting, we meet on Monday that week).

Our group meets in Youth Room in the East wing. Anyone is welcome, even if you have no painting skills. We have those who have painted and those who want to learn how. We share ideas and talent and knowledge so come on up and see what fun we are having.

This is probably something you have always wanted to do so now is the time to jump in and give it a try. Call Anne Smith 813-3350 for more information.

Memorial Garden & Columbarium

The dedication of our beautiful Memorial Garden was on March 4th, 2001. In this sacred place you will find quiet and beauty and the presence of God.

We encourage you to visit and experience the peaceful surroundings of this wonderful and unique setting.

Endowment Fund

The thought that comes to many of our minds when we hear the words Endowment Fund is gifts of large amounts of money.

That is a natural conclusion since our exposure to Endowment Funds through the media is often about large gifts to major universities, medical, charitable or research foundations.

However many churches both large and small also have Endowment Funds. We just don’t hear about them as often. Most church endowment funds are made up of many smaller gifts.  In time these gifts add up and can eventually aid the ministry of a church in a significant and continuous way. These Funds are truly a gift that keeps on giving because except in the case of an emergency only the earnings of the fund are utilized. This is just a reminder that Palma Ceia United Methodist has its own Endowment Fund.

A gift of any size to our Church Endowment Fund may be something you wish to consider.
